Bus services to Poleglass were disrupted last night following disturbances involving a large mob of stone-throwing youths.

Translink last night said the disruption, which it reported at around 10pm, was due to large crowds stoning vehicles in the area.

The transport provider said that due to the trouble services last night were operating to Pembrooke Loop Road only.

Brian Heading, an SDLP councillor for the Colin area, said he had been contacted by a number of residents concerned that motorists could be injured or worse.

"Other than these young people needing to realise that there could have been a death or at the very least a serious accident, there is a role to play for statutory agencies and youth leaders in the area to get the message across that one stone thrown by a young person for a joke could have ended up with a number of injuries," he said.

It's believed similar incidents happen regularly at the weekends.
