Caolan Page's death 'was accident'

By Brendan McDaid

Police have confirmed the death of teenager Caolan Page was a tragic accident as his family prepared to bury him today.

The 19-year-old was found with head injuries in Londonderry at around 2am last Saturday near Magazine Gate on the inside of the City Walls.

Detectives issued their conclusion that no crime had taken place after studying CCTV footage. They also interviewed a number of potential witnesses.

The results of a post-mortem, which was studied by detectives, are believed to have concluded that Caolan's injuries did not indicate he had been attacked.

The post-mortem was conducted on Tuesday before his remains were released to his family.

The confirmation from police brings to an end widespread speculation over what happened the St Columb's College student.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police investigating the death of Caolan Page do not believe a crime was committed."
