Care worker is charged with ill-treatment of a patient

A member of staff in an Armagh nursing home has been committed for trial in relation to charges against a mentally ill patient.

Angela Donaldson (59) of Ballyfannahan Road, Cullyhanna, is accused of ill-treating the male patient while employed in Ard Mhacha Nursing Home, Armagh on October 5, 2014.

On the same date she is alleged to have unlawfully and injuriously imprisoned the patient and detained him against his will.

A prosecution lawyer advised Armagh Magistrates Court there is a case to answer, which was agreed by District Judge Paul Copeland.

Donaldson was remanded on £500 bail and ordered to appear for arraignment before Newry Crown Court on September 22.

Ard Mhacha Care Home in Desert Lane, Armagh is a residential and nursing facility operated by Countrywide Care Homes Limited - a sister company of Leeds-based Maria Mallaband Care Group.
