Carrick shop held up by armed gunman

An armed gunman has held up a Carrickfergus shop leaving a staff member and customer badly shaken, but uninjured.

The man, wearing a balaclava, entered the store on the Woodburn Road in the Co Antrim town before demanding money and cigarettes from the shop assistant at around 5.45pm on Sunday.

He also ordered a customer to go to the back of the shop.

The man made off in the direction of Hawthorn Avenue with cash and cigarettes.

He was described as being around 6ft tall and of slim-medium build.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on the non-emergency number 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
