Cars 'drove over bomb' in east Belfast

By Rebecca Black

Police said a number of motorists may have driven over a suspect device in east Belfast last night.

The device – described as a suspected nail bomb by local MP Naomi Long – was found by a member of the public at the corner of Castlereagh Street and the Albertbridge Road at 6.15pm.

The alert ended before 11pm and the device was removed for examination.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "It is believed that a number of motorists may have driven over the device before it was reported to police." Ms Long said: "Whoever is behind planting this device is utterly reckless."
