Castlereagh primed to prize borough’s top sports people

Castlereagh Sports Development Association, in partnership with Castlereagh Borough Council, is inviting nominations for the prestigious 2011 Sports Awards, in a bid to recognise and reward sporting achievements within the borough.

The Awards Ceremony which is held biannually will take place on Wednesday, June 8, at La Mon Hotel and Country Club. The organisers of the event are delighted to announce that this year’s special guest is none other than Great Britain Team Cyclist and Olympic Silver Medallist; Wendy Houvenaghel.

Nominations are now being taken for the following categories: Junior Sportsman, Junior Sportswoman, Senior Sportsperson (male or female), Junior Coach of the Year (male or female), Senior Coach of the Year (male or female), Junior Team of the Year, Senior Team of the Year, Administrator of the Year and Disability Award.

Chairman of the Castlereagh Sports Development Association, Mr Dennis Boyd said, “These awards are an excellent opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the sporting achievements of people from Castlereagh. Castlereagh has many dedicated sportsmen and women who contribute to local sport, and this is our chance to recognise and congratulate them. I would encourage people to nominate individuals or teams, who deserve to be awarded for their commitment and contribution to sport.”

The final closing date for all nominations is Friday, April 8. All the finalists will be informed by letter with full details of the awards ceremony.
