World champion boxer Michael Conlan gave some first class fitness tips to mental health charity AWARE ahead of their Mood Walk event.

The Mood Walk is a 5km/10km walk or run which gives participants the chance to get out in the fresh air, get the heart pumping and raise money for charity.

It kicks off on Friday June 17 from Belfast's Shaw's Bridge and Friday June 24 from Ebrington Square in Londonderry.

Michael took some time out of his training for his upcoming fight at the Rio Olympics to put the team through their paces.

Last year the Belfast and Derry AWARE Mood Walks raised over £25,000 and the charity are hoping this year’s events will be even bigger.

Every penny raised goes directly towards AWARE’s services and education programmes to help people affected by depression and bipolar disorder.

Director of Fundraising from AWARE Teresa Sloan said: "The feedback from last year’s events was excellent so we wanted to run it again this year. There is a real family feel with samba drums and face painting and the team spirit makes it a very enjoyable event.

"You don’t have to be at Michael’s level to take part, all fitness levels and ages are welcome and we’ll have some surprises on the night, so come early."

Registration for Mood Walk is £10 and is open now. Participants will receive a Mood Walk pack – including a Mood Walk t-shirt. Register at www.aware-ni.org/moodwalk or call 02890357820.
