Charity's appeal gets backing from Father Christmas

By Amanda Ferguson

A charity project that allows families of children being treated for cancer to stay together has received a boost from Father Christmas himself.

Santa Claus and his elves will help children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent raise money for the Northern Ireland Homes From Home Appeal at Hillside Nursery Centre in Newtownabbey from November 15.

The appeal aims to build a second specialist house close to Belfast City Hospital's NI Cancer Centre, having already opened one near the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. They are to be used by families of young people having treatment.

Among them is five-year-old Ballyclare boy Ross Patterson, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in February.

Ross' mother Claire said: "The grotto is a fantastic chance for the charity to raise a lot of money for the Homes From Home Appeal and I encourage local people to support it."

Santa needs lots of helpers to give out toys at the grotto. If you can help, call 028 9072 5780 or email christine.mcclune@clicsargent.org.ukw
