Closure of Lindsay Ford in Bangor car dealership to result in loss of jobs

BY STEVEN ALEXANDER

Jobs are set to be lost after the announcement that a Co Down car dealership is closing.

Lindsay Ford in Bangor is set to shut down, with all positions to be made redundant, a Ford Retail spokesman said.

"As we are currently in the consultation process, it is not possible for us to put an exact number on redundancies at this time," said the spokesman. "Despite this closure, Ford Retail is aiming to redeploy as many employees as we can elsewhere in the business."

The move to close the dealership follows a business review of Ford Retail's operation in Northern Ireland.

"As a result of the decision, it is proposed that all positions in Bangor will become redundant and we have started consultation with all those directly affected," the spokesman added.

North Down DUP MLA Gordon Dunne said he was shocked and saddened by the news.

"My sympathies go out to all the staff who will unfortunately be affected by this planned closure, many of whom have been long serving and loyal employees for many years," he said.

"This is a significant blow for the local economy."
