Commuters to get 10% off

Monthly season ticket holders for the Bangor rail line will receive a 10% discount off their next monthly ticket purchased from January 20 to compensate them for recent delays.

Mal McGreevy, of Translink, explained: “Unfortunately, due to a number of mechanical engineering issues affecting mainly our older train fleet, we have had to reallocate available trains to maintain services across the network.

“As a result, a number of Bangor line express services were cancelled and affected passengers were carried on stopping services instead.

“As we have fallen below our Passenger’s Charter reliability target for the Bangor line our regular customers are now entitled to compensation.”

He said it was the first time since 2008 that the company had not met its service reliability targets but that over 95% of trains arrived within five minutes of the listed time.

The discount will apply automatically to all monthly tickets bought for journeys between Bangor and Sydenham.

Bangor Line annual ticket holders will be entitled to a 1% discount off their next purchase for each month that the targets are not achieved.
