Conditions in jail 'worried' Arlene suspect Howard
The child killer suspected of murdering Arlene Arkinson complained about conditions in the high-security Belmarsh Prison, an inquest into the death of the missing schoolgirl heard yesterday.
Robert Howard asked to be detained at a psychiatric hospital in Scotland and sounded out police about a deal hours after being charged over Arlene's death.
Detective Inspector Herbert Henderson told Belfast Coroner's Court: "I recall him saying how conditions were unpleasant."
Howard, who was cleared of the 15-year-old's murder by a jury unaware of his previous conviction for murdering a teenager, died in prison aged 71 last year. The inquest continues.
