Consultation on Casement Park on the way
A consultation on new plans for redeveloping Casement Park has been announced.
The £77m project has been beset by problems and delays, but a fresh planning application is expected in September, almost two years after approval was overturned in the High Court following a legal challenge by local residents. The proposed stadium's capacity has not been finalised and will emerge "following completion of the environmental impact assessment, public consultation and consultation with statutory consultees and key stakeholders", the Ulster Council of the GAA said.
The first phase in the process is developing and agreeing a scoping exercise with Belfast City Council. An environmental impact assessment of the proposed redevelopment will identify key topics for assessment as well as other reports and information, with an environmental statement being submitted to Belfast City Council in support of the proposals and to assist in the determination of the application.
Phase two is a comprehensive 20-week pre-application community consultation programme.
