Cousins Aaron and Michael McDonald buried as girlfriend pays tribute to crash victim
The heartbroken girlfriend of a young man killed in a car crash that claimed the lives of two cousins has paid tribute to her "angel".
Aaron McDonald (19) and his cousin Michael McDonald (21) died after the car they were travelling in crashed on the outskirts of Newbuildings near Londonderry last Wednesday.
The cousins, from Donemana in Co Tyrone, were back-seat passengers in a Volkswagen Golf which hit a tree after leaving the road at around 3.30am.
Up to 400 mourners, mostly young people, attended Aaron's funeral on Saturday and Michael's yesterday at St James' Parish Church.
Aaron's girlfriend, Jamee Devine, left a heartfelt tribute, saying how he had left "a massive hole in my heart".
"I'll never ever forget you lil man. Love you so much, everything's gonna be different, I tried my hardest to stay strong by hearing you say 'everything's gonna be okay I'm always here'. Words can't describe how much me and everyone else misses you. I'll never get anyone else like you," she said.
Dylan McDonald, a brother of the 21-year-old victim, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and later released pending further inquiries.
The Rev Judi McGaffin, who led both funerals, said: "It's difficult enough to face one funeral, but to face two funerals is very, very difficult for the families and extremely difficult for a small, tight-knit and caring community.
"When you see 50, 60 or 100 young people together, there's normally lots of noise, fun and craic, but today those young people are clearly very sad, very silent, except for tears."
