A Ballyclare man has admitted killing his friend in a fatal car crash two years ago.
David Paul Higgins (22) had been due to go on trial at Belfast Crown Court yesterday, but his lawyer Richard Greene asked for the charge of causing the death of Jamie Adams by dangerous driving to be put to him.
Higgins, from Grange Valley Green, maintained his not guilty plea to dangerous driving but pleaded “guilty to causing death by careless driving” and to driving without insurance. A count of driving whilst unfit was “left on the file”.
Prosecution lawyer Gary McCrudden said Higgins' guilty plea to the lesser offence was acceptable to the Crown. He will be sentenced at a later date.
Jamie Adams (19) was killed when the Peugeot 106 driven by his friend Higgins crashed on Ballyeaston Main Street in the early hours of April 21, 2011.
