Culture Night to hit the right note

By Brendan McDaid

The north west will come alive with colourful celebrations today as Londonderry and Strabane prepare to celebrate Culture Night.

In the UK’s first City of Culture, free events have been planned across the city, with music throughout the day.

An eclectic mix of music will be on offer from this afternoon and long into the night in the city centre.

The outdoor stage at the Guildhall will feature Flamenco and traditional musicians, along with dance music, drumming, soul singers and songwriters.

Among the highlights will be popular local band John Deery And The Heads at 3pm, renowned singer-songwriter Paul Casey at 3.30pm and the international beat of Balkan Alien Sound at 8pm.

In Strabane, which is celebrating its first Culture Night, there will be a photographic exhibition by Treasa Giblin at the Farmers Home Pub, Railway Street, from 6pm to 7pm.

While David Oliver will be in concert at the The Alley Cafe Bar at 8pm.

Another highlight includes the Strabane District Film Makers Showcase at The Alley Theatre Auditorium from 8pm. For details, visit www.culturenight.ie.
