Cycling race makes its mark on post
Royal Mail has created a special postmark to mark the Giro d'Italia Big Start coming to Northern Ireland.
The new postmark will be carried on all local stamped mail from May 3-10 as the cycling race makes its way across Northern Ireland.
Royal Mail issues special postmarks only for major events in the UK or to mark special historic dates. It is the first time it has been used for a Northern Ireland event.
Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster said: "Bringing the Giro d'Italia's Grande Partenza or 'Big Start' to Northern Ireland is a tremendous coup and I am delighted that Royal Mail has decided to get into the spirit of the occasion by designing this commemorative postmark."
She said not only is it a creative way of marking a historic event but it also highlights on mail being sent around the world that Northern Ireland is hosting the Giro d'Italia.
Barbara Roulston, Royal Mail's head of external relations, said: "We are delighted to be carrying this special postmark on mail to celebrate Northern Ireland hosting the start of the Giro d'Italia.
"We hope it will be enjoyed by everyone throughout the country and also by those who visit us from abroad while we host the Giro Big Start."
