A cyclist has died in a road accident in Co Down.

The man, in his 60s, was riding towards Bangor on the dual carriageway near Holywood when he was in collision with a white Mazda car shortly before 6.30am on Tuesday, police said.

The road was closed in both directions after the crash, leading to major traffic disruption.

Another cyclist, a man in his 30s, suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision.

Inspector David Cleland appealed for anyone who was travelling on the A2 on Tuesday morning and who witnessed the incident to contact local police or the Collision Investigation Unit.
