Cyclists fume over illegal parking in Belfast

A survey by angry cyclists has found 878 vehicles illegally parked in Belfast's cycles lanes in a single five-day period.
It revealed that urban cyclists who commute encounter an unlawful blockage in a bus lane every five minutes in rush hour – or three times per journey.
Sixteen volunteer cyclists from the Reclaim Belfast's Cycle Lanes campaign also pinpointed Belfast's five worst bus lanes during their November 2012 survey.
The worst bus lane in Belfast runs along the Shankill Road and clocked up an average of 49 illegally parked vehicles per journey.
Runner-up is the Springfield Road with 27, followed by Castlereagh Road with 15, Crumlin Road with 15 and Cregagh Road with seven.
Lack of enforcement is putting the lives of vulnerable road users at risk, said the cyclists, who logged 143 journeys during their survey.
