A father and son who admitted stealing a lorry out of frustration because the lorry owner refused to pay them for work they'd carried out on the vehicle were both given suspended jail sentences yesterday.
Roy Hamilton (58) and his son Jason (30), both from Kildoag Road in Killaloo, Co Londonderry, had no previous convictions.
They admitted stealing the lorry, belonging to Colm Lafferty, last February 26 and holding on to the vehicle for five months.
The court was told that the father and son decided to take the lorry after a £3,000 cheque from Mr Lafferty for repairs they'd carried out had bounced.
A defence barrister said the Hamiltons "were driven to the end of their tether" by Mr Lafferty's non-payment.
Deputy District Judge Austin Kennedy said while he accepted the Hamiltons were frustrated, it did not excuse their actions. Both were given a two-month jail sentence, suspended for two years.
