An open day was held last Friday to allow local residents to visit a new south Belfast Childcare centre.

Local people were invited along to the Village Sure Start Children’s Centre at the Richview Regeneration Centre on the Donegall Road.

Ruth Livingston, manager of the children’s centre, said the open day was an opportunity for local residents to come and have a look at the centre and its facilities.

“The centre will provide day care in an area where currently there is no registered day care available,” she said.

“We have three day care rooms — one for babies, one for children aged one to two years and one for children aged two to three. We have places for at least 27 children.”

“We also have a parents’ room that will be used for training and meetings.”

Ruth said the centre, part of Inner-city South Belfast Sure Start, is to provide employment for 13 staff, including five local people.

The centre received funding from the Department of Social Development, the Department of Education, Children In Need, Lloyds TSB, Bombardier, John Moores Foundation and Enklon Foundation to help set up the rooms.
