Defendant not sentenced over surprise trip to Spain
A man due at Londonderry Magistrates Court yesterday over motoring offences did not turn up because he had been taken on a surprise holiday to Spain, his solicitor said.
James Moore (24), from Tullymore Road in the Waterside, has admitted driving without insurance and without tax, driving while not accompanied by a qualified driver and driving without displaying L-plates on February 21.
His solicitor told District Judge Barney McElholm that Moore had, the night before, asked for sentencing to be put back as he'd gone to Spain with his grandmother.
Mr McElholm queried why Moore had not left his driving licence with Mr McGee on his way to the airport.
"I will expect to see him here in three weeks' time with his driving licence," he said, adjourning sentencing until June 23.
