Derry driver fined for car donut madness
The actions of a 23-year-old man caught carrying out 360-degree turns in a car have been described as “madness”.
Mark Phillip McCarron, of Milldale Crescent in Londonderry, appeared at the city’s Magistrates Court to face a charge of driving without due care and attention.
The court was told that the lorry driver was seen carrying out ‘donut’ turns at an industrial estate on the outskirts of Derry last year.
Deputy District Judge Mervyn Bates heard that a police mobile patrol was on duty at Campsie industrial estate on May 24 when they saw McCarron performing the donut in a Mercedes.
Fining McCarron £250 and imposing three penalty points, Mr Bates told him his driving was madness and said that such manoeuvres should only be carried out at an appropriate motoring racing track.
