Derry man tried to choke lover, court told
A man has appeared in court in Londonderry charged with attempting to strangle, choke or suffocate his partner.
Eugene Columba Augustus Doherty (38), from Abbot's Walk in the city, is alleged to have committed the offence on December 29 of last year.
He's further charged with assaulting his partner on the same date.
District Judge Barney McElholm adjourned the case and the defendant was released on bail until February 5.
As part of his bail conditions Doherty must not contact his partner, nor must he enter the Friel Close area of Ballymagroarty.
He was also told that contact with his children could only be made by arrangement through his solicitor.
