An elderly disabled man was attacked in his bed during a burglary in Co Down.

Police said the pensioner was assaulted with a "sharp implement" when t hree men broke into his home in Clogharevan Park, Newry, during the early hours of the morning.

Detective Inspector Harry Colgan said: "He received several wounds to his body as a result of this assault.

"He has been taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries."

An undisclosed sum of cash is believed to have been stolen.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
