Doctors' union chief Mark Porter resists leadership challenge
The leader of the doctors' union has resisted a leadership challenge.
Dr Mark Porter has been re-elected as chairman of council at the British Medical Association (BMA) at the BMA's annual meeting in Belfast.
His position was contested by consultant psychiatrist Dr JS Bamrah, b ut the BMA's council voted to keep Dr Porter in place for another year.
Dr Porter has been chairman of council of the BMA for four years. The post holder has a guaranteed place for three years but can then be challenged. They can only remain in post for a maximum of five years.
