Drugs stash found on city outskirts

Drugs worth an estimated £23,000 have been seized by police on the outskirts of Belfast.

A cannabis factory was also uncovered after officers raided a house in the Brentwood Park area of Castlereagh yesterday.

A 32-year-old woman and 35-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and supply of Class A and B drugs as well as other offences. They were later released on bail pending further inquiries.

Since last Friday police have conducted 12 searches, arrested 12 people and made 12 seizures of drugs worth an estimated £30,000 in the Castlereagh area.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) area c ommander Chief Inspector Derek Martin said: "There can be no place for illegal drugs in our communities and the seizure of these suspected drugs on Friday evening is an indication of our commitment to removing drugs from circulation. Through seizures of this nature, we are reducing the harm that is caused to the community."
