Drumsurn alert: Controlled explosion carried out on "viable" explosive device
A controlled explosion has been carried out during a security alert in Co Londonderry.
Police discovered a suspicious object in the Legavallon Road area of Drumsurn, near Dungiven, on Friday afternoon.
A controlled explosion was then carried out and police declared the object to be a "viable explosive device".
The alert was sparked on Wednesday after the Samaritans received an anonymous call using a recognised codeword.
The caller said an explosive device had been left at a junction near the Leghavallon Road
Detective Inspector Stuart Griffin said: “I would like to thank the people of Drumsurn for their continuing support and patience while we have dealt with this security operation over the last two days and I ask that this continues as this lengthy operation carries on into tomorrow.”
