Dundrum crash: Woman 'critical' after collision near Murlough Nature reserve on Newcastle Road
A woman in her 30s remains in a critical condition in hospital after a two vehicle collision in Dundrum, Co Down.
The woman was struck by a vehicle on the Newcastle Road close to the entrance of Murlough Nature reserve shortly before 8pm on Thursday.
She was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital for treatment. The Newcastle Road was closed following the incident.
A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 19.57 to reports that a female pedestrian had been knocked down.
"We sent two crews who were on the scene within minutes. The woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital with serious injuries."
Inspector Stephen Humphries said: "We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed this incident. We can be contacted on 101, quoting ref: 977 210116."
Local councillor Garth Craig said the news was very depressing, coming as it did in the wake of two young Markethill men dying on Northern Ireland's roads on the same day, and a young child being killed in an accident in Newtownards on Wednesday.
