A male has been questioned by police after a teenage girl was hit in the face with a brick in west Belfast.

Laura McGlade (15) was at Dunmurry train station when the incident happened at the weekend.

The teen was waiting at the railway halt with a friend when she was struck in the face by a brick thrown from the far side of the platform at around 10.10pm on Saturday.

She sustained a fractured eye socket, facial laceration and a suspected detached retina.

Speaking to the BBC, her grandmother Betty McAvoy said the teenager is in a "lot of pain" and "worried sick about the possibility of surgery".

Police said a male attended a police station voluntarily on Monday. He was interviewed by officers investigating the attack.

Detective Inspector Richard Thornton said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on an innocent teenager.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance in our appeal for information.”
