DUP Economy Minister Simon Hamilton to publish RHI recipients

By Adrian Rutherford

The names of recipients from the botched Renewable Heating Incentive are to be revealed next week.

Economy Minister Simon Hamilton said details would be published next Wednesday.

Mr Hamilton said: “I believe that it is absolutely imperative that there is complete openness and transparency around the RHI scheme and particular in respect of the naming of businesses benefitting from the scheme.

"It has always been my intention to publish this information.

"However, I have equally always been mindful that I can only do so in accordance with my legal obligations."

Mr Hamilton said officials from the Department for the Economy had written to all of those participating in the non domestic RHI scheme indicating recipients' details would be published.

"The Department is currently analysing the responses received and are following a clear process as required under section 10 of the 1998 Data Protection Act," he added.

"The process will balance the competing interests of transparency and the right to privacy and protection in accordance with the law.

"I anticipate that the process will be concluded by the beginning of next week and it would be my intention to publish RHI recipient details on Wednesday January 25.”

Yesterday the locations of businesses that claimed from the RHI scheme were revealed.

The Stephen Nolan Show revealed a breakdown of the locations of those businesses by postcode area.

Of those businesses that are receiving money, 1,014 are commercial, 871 the agricultural poultry industry and 243 are farms.
