DUP minister Givan criticised over Fifa poppy row
TUV leader, Jim Allister, has hit out at the DUP Communities Minister for not lodging a protest with Fifa over disciplinary action being taken against Northern Ireland for honouring war heroes on Armistice Day.
Football's world governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings over acts of remembrance at a recent World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.
But Mr Allister said: "A minute's silence, a wreath laying and the display of a poppy mosaic in the crowd didn't cause any offence to anyone."
However, the North Antrim MLA said he failed to understand why the minister responsible for sport, the DUP's Paul Givan, had not lodged a letter of protest with Fifa.
In response to an Assembly question from Mr Allister, Mr Givan said he was disappointed with Fifa's decision.
He added: "I have offered my full support to the IFA should they face any sanction from Fifa in respect of this matter.
