DVA staff's severance plan opens

By Claire Williamson

A voluntary redundancy scheme for workers who lost their jobs at the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA) is to open.

It comes after efforts to redeploy staff had little effect.

Services were centralised in Swansea on July 21 and around 300 DVA posts were lost in Northern Ireland.

The scheme will open in November and it is thought to be more than 200 redundancies will be sought.

Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Environment Agency is to lay off some seasonal workers as a result of budget cuts.

The agency is responsible for maintaining a number of historic sites and environmental issues.

The jobs are seasonal posts and it is understood permanent positions are not affected.
