Eamonn Magee Jr murder: Accused to appear in court over boxer's killing
A man has been charged with murdering boxer Eamonn Magee Jr in west Belfast at the weekend.
Mr Magee (22) was stabbed to death as he visited a friend in Twinbrook in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The victim was the son of former WBU welterweight world champion Eamonn Magee.
The 32-year-old accused is due to appear at Craigavon Magistrates' Court this morning.
The charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service, a PSNI spokeswoman said.
A 32-year-old man was arrested in Dunmurry on suspicion of murder a few hours after the brutal attack.
On Sunday, police were granted extra time by a court to further question the man.
They charged him last night.
Detectives believe that the young sportsman's killer lay in wait while he visited a friend in Summerhill Park.
The engineering student's killer struck as he went out of the house by the back door to check on a pizza delivery.
Mr Magee was stabbed several times.
The dead man's father Eamonn snr said after the murder: "He was my blue-eyed boy. He was such a lovely guy and I just can't believe it.
"Eamonn was a really nice guy, everybody had a good word to say about him and he had a very bright future."
