Elderly forced to flee after hoax bomb alert
A security alert was last night declared an elaborate hoax.
Residents living nearby were evacuated when the device in Lake Street, Lurgan, was discovered.
PSNI Superintendent Barbara Gray praised the elderly members of the community who had to leave their homes during the alert.
Supt Gray said: “I cannot express my condemnation strongly enough. Once again our community has been disrupted and the lives of residents put at risk by a cowardly element intent on causing as much disruption as they can.
“They have no regard for who may be affected by their actions.
“It is disgraceful that these elderly residents have had to be inconvenienced in such a senseless manner.
“The people who carry out these acts are not part of the society within which the majority of people of Northern Ireland wish to live.”
