Elderly warned of mobility con

Older people are being urged to watch out for a bogus mobility company which is targeting pensioners across the province.
The Arthritis Care charity has received complaints from people in Belfast, Carrickfergus and Portadown who said the company claimed it was linked to an arthritis organisation.
Kate Fleck, Northern Ireland director for Arthritis Care, said the suspect company had been telephoning older people to offer mobility assessments.
“We received a call from one man who was very concerned,” she said. “His wife was phoned by a Scottish lady (who) said they were doing mobility assessments.
“They said that they had merged with a local arthritis charity and that automatically implicates us because we are the main charity in Northern Ireland.”
Mrs Fleck said that Arthritis Care never gives out any personal details and is in no way connected to the company.
She has received reports from people who were quoted £200 for the assessment.
