Elliott and McCrea join UUP race
Tom Elliott and Basil McCrea will contest the Ulster Unionist leadership, a party spokeswoman has confirmed.
Internal party meetings on the way ahead will culminate in an election among party members on September 22 in the Waterfront Hall, Belfast.
Outgoing leader Sir Reg Empey said he would stand down after his link-up with the Conservatives at the General Election saw the party fail to win a seat.
Mr Elliott, Assembly member for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, said: "I want to create an inclusive party that can appeal to everyone in Northern Ireland regardless of whether you are from Lisnaskea or the Cregagh Road."
Mr McCrea, Assembly Member for Lagan Valley, said: ""The party needs change - I stand for change.
"I am opposed to talks of unionist unity because I believe it will lead inevitably to republican unity. I believe unionism needs to reach out to the non voting electorate and others."
