Engineer admits having sex with an animal in Co Down - and distributing child porn

A civil engineer has admitted having sex with an animal, believed to be a dog.

Garth Michael Williams, 43, previously from the Mill Road, Ballyroney in Banbridge but now with an address at Station Road in Portstewart, has admitted two counts of bestiality on a date unknown between 1 February 2009 and 4 April last year.

Standing in the dock of Newry Crown Court in a blue suit on Monday, he quietly said "guilty".

Williams also pleaded guilty to 10 charges of distributing indecent images of children, 17 counts of possessing or making indecent images of children and two further charges of possessing extreme pornography - all alleged to have occurred on various dates between 10 October 2011 and 4 April 2014.

Following the guilty pleas Williams, originally from South Africa but who was living in Banbridge at the time of the offences, was remanded back into custody.

He will be sentenced at the end of May when probation and other reports will have been filed.

On Williams’ Linkedin social networking page he described himself as a health, safety, quality and environment director at a major construction company who had previously worked in Dubai and South Africa.

He also listed several multi-million pound construction projects around the world that he had been involved with during his successful career.

But Williams was last year granted legal aid to pay for his counsel after the court was handed a letter confirming he had been sacked from his job.
