Ex-envoy Dr Richard Haass is hot tip for team Trump
A former US peace envoy to Northern Ireland is being considered for a senior position in Donald Trump's administration.
Reports have suggested that Richard Haass is in the running to be the next president's deputy secretary of state.
Dr Haass (65) was an envoy here during the presidency of George W Bush. He returned to Northern Ireland in 2013 to head up negotiations on parades, flags and dealing with the legacy of the Troubles, although the talks ultimately failed.
Dr Haass is head of the Council on Foreign Relations, and has served as a director at the State Department and the National Security Council.
