Ex-officer used PSNI computer as spy tool

BY EAMONN MacDERMOTT

A former police officer who accessed the PSNI computer system to find out details on his partner's children and his own has been fined £3,000 at Limavady Magistrates Court.

Roger Mahon (48), whose address was given as c/o PSNI Limavady, faced a total of six charges dating back to April 2010.

The court was told that on April 1 Mahon accessed the police NICHE computer system to check for three home addresses.

Two of the addresses were connected to his new partner and the other was his former wife's mother.

On April 19, Mahon again accessed the NICHE system seeking details regarding his ex-wife's children.

When interviewed, Mahon admitted accessing the computer system and said he was concerned about his partner's children and wanted to check if there was anything on them in the system.

He also said he was concerned about his own children after his break-up and was trying to find information about them.

Mahon had since been pensioned off from the force.
