Expert review a chance to revolutionise NHS: Doctors
The chance to reform the healthcare system in Northern Ireland must be seized by the Assembly, a doctors' union has said.
Speaking at the BMA annual conference in Belfast, Dr John D Woods said the upcoming proposals made by an expert panel for the Bengoa Review would provide the chance to reshape and reform the health service.
Hundreds of delegates travelled to the four-day conference at the Waterfront Hall, where they heard Dr Woods say that the delivery of healthcare in the province must be improved.
"For too many patients, but particularly those with long-term conditions, their experience of healthcare is a series of disjointed episodes of acute care lacking integration," he said.
Dr Woods welcomed the commitment of Health Minister Michelle O'Neill and her DUP predecessor Simon Hamilton to making changes.
He also urged Ms O'Neill to work with doctors to develop mutual solutions to redesigning the service.
