Explosive device found behind car

An explosive device has been found behind a parked car in Londonderry.

Detectives said they are keeping an open mind about the motive behind the incident in the Westlake housing development in the city.

The device, which police described as viable, was discovered on ground behind a rear wheel of the vehicle at around 7am.

Army bomb disposal officers were called to the scene and a controlled explosion was carried out.

The device was rendered safe and removed for examination.

Detectives have appealed for witnesses or for anyone with information that could assist the investigation to get in touch with them.
