Ex-President Bill Clinton joy at Friel's celebration
Former American President Bill Clinton has applauded plans for a major new cross-border festival in Belfast and Co Donegal to honour one of his favourite writers, Omagh-born Brian Friel.
The programme for the Lughnasa International Friel Festival next month includes performances of his plays, talks about his work and musical celebrations of the man.
In a message to organisers, President Clinton said the 86-year-old Derry-educated playwright's work was an "Irish treasure for the entire world".
The festival runs from August 20-31 and is organised by Belfast-born artistic director Sean Doran. More information on all the events is at www.lughnasa internationalfrielfestival.com.
