A 38-year-old man has appeared in court charged with murdering a Co Antrim mother of seven.

Alan Norman Foster is accused of killing Pauline Carmichael between February 22 and 26 last year.

Foster, a former soldier, whose address was given as HMP Maghaberry, is accused of killing Ms Carmichael then dumping her body.

Her remains were found at Antrim's Lough Shore Park last February.

At the time of her death, Ms Carmichael was in a relationship with Foster's father.

At yesterday's brief hearing, a defence barrister said his client may be suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and medical opinion was being sought.

He also told the court that in the lead-up to Ms Carmichael's murder, there was a "vast amount of alcohol and drugs taken".

Mr Justice Tracey said he would review the case in March, then he remanded Foster back into custody.
