Family is forced to move out after car wrecks house

By Jill Goligher

A west Belfast family has narrowly escaped serious injury after a car drove into the side of their house in the early hours of yesterday.

The car caused massive damage when it crashed through their front garden wall into the property on Whiterock Road. It was reported that this is the second time a car has crashed into the same house on the corner of Whiterock Grove.

Police arrested a 36-year-old man at the scene and it is believed two other males fled.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said the car was doing 80-90mph when it crashed. The family has had to be rehomed as a result.

SDLP councillor Tim Attwood paid a visit to the family and said they were "very shocked".

"Death drivers must realise their actions cause huge damage to people and property," he said. "Those engaged in such activity should face the full brunt of the law."
