Family of four escape arson attack

A family have escaped injury after an arson attack on their home.

An accelerant was poured through the letterbox of the house in Hillside Park, Whitehead, Co Antrim, last night before a rag was inserted and set alight.

No-one was injured but the two adults and two children who were in the property at the time were left badly shaken.

Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) Inspector Martin Ruddy appealed for information.

He said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information to contact CID at Newtownabbey on the non-emergency number 101.

"Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Police are still working to establish a motive for the attack.
