The family of 11-year-old Ruby Dench are still waiting on the return of her body almost a week after she died during a school trip to Scotland.

Ruby, a pupil at Whiteabbey Primary School, died suddenly on Wednesday during a visit to the Highlands. She was one of 58 children staying at Loch Insh Watersport and Activity Centre, near Kingussie, Inverness-shire, when she was found unconscious in her bed at 2.30am last Wednesday.

Paramedics battled to resuscitate Ruby, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

It is thought she died from a medical condition and not as the result of an accident.

Ruby’s family will have to await the results of a post-mortem to establish the cause of her death before they can make preparations to take her body home.

It’s believed the results will be released in the next few days.

Yesterday a Procurator Fiscal spokesman in Scotland said: “The post-mortem has not been completed yet. The investigation is still ongoing and the family will continue to be updated.”
