A father-of-two originally from Slovakia has died following an early morning road crash in Co Antrim..

Just one car is believed to have been involved in the crash which took place close to the junction of Groggan Road on the Portglenone Road in Randalstown during the early hours of Sunday morning,

The man who died had been driving a green coloured Volkswagen Passat car before the crash at around 12.15 on Sunday.

He has been named locally as father-of-two Kanil Gervenka (37), who was originally from Slovakia but had been living and working in Northern Ireland for some time.

Kanil leaves behind a partner and two young daughters.

His family and friends visited the site where he died on Sunday morning.

It is understood the victim worked at a car-breakers yard in the area.

Inspector Doris Purvis is appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Portglenone Road last night or early this morning and who witnessed the collision to contact local officers in Antrim or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
