Fears for community relations plan
Presbyterian Moderator Dr Norman Hamilton has warned of the dangers of the ‘Shared Future’ strategy being put on the back-burner because of equality legislation.
Speaking during a series of talks organised by Belfast Lord Mayor Pat Convery, he also urged the churches, governments and councils to work together to serve the community.
The Moderator said the failure to make progress in the community relations strategy affected not only budgets, but the social fabric of Belfast.
“Churches need to be challenged by the city council on the contribution they are making to the building of healthy relationships in this city — but by a council whose members are committed to working together for that same shared future.”
