Festive family fun to launch Christmas in Ballyhackamore

Ballyhackamore Village is preparing for its annual Christmas lights switch-on which will take place on Saturday, December 7.

The lights will be switched on by popular Disney characters Jake (Jake and the Neverland Pirates) and Sofia the First at 5pm, who will be joined by excited children from some of the local schools' choirs as well as a spectacular lantern parade by Wandsworth Community Centre. Citybeat breakfast presenter Stephen Clements, will entertain the crowd with a lively radio roadshow.

As usual, there will be plenty of activities throughout the day before the big switch on at 5pm with a jam-packed family fun day taking place from 1pm-4pm in Kirkpatrick Memorial Church offering lots of activities to keep the kiddies entertained such as balloon modelling and face painting.

On December 14, there will be plenty for mums and dads too as the new addition of the Christmas Fair will be adding to the established retailers' offering, with lots of speciality stalls providing the perfect gift options for everyone's Christmas shopping.

Brenda Shankey, Chair of Ballyhackamore Business Association said "We have a fantastic programme planned for the people of Ballyhackamore and it promises to be a great festive season for everyone to celebrate the official countdown to Christmas in east Belfast. The Christmas lights switch on has not only become a favourite seasonal event in Ballyhackamore, but an important one too. Supporting local retailers is crucial to their survival."

She continued: "A big thank you to all involved in making the event a huge success including Kirkpatrick Memorial Church, St Colmcilles Church, Wandsworth Community Centre, and Belfast City Council for their continued support."
