Festive fun for Foyle at spooky sports day

A spooky sports day will be staged for young children as part of the Banks of the Foyle Halloween celebrations later this month.

The Halloween Multi-Sports Fun Days will be open to children aged 6-11, with a range of sports activities and traditional Halloween games being organised.

The fun days will take place from 11am to 3pm on Saturday October 29, and Monday October 31 at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre, and on the Monday at Templemore Sports Complex.

The Olympic-themed events will feature a series of athletic and mini competitions between all the children, with running, javelin, shot, hammer, judo, cricket, rugby, soccer and Gaelic games.

Derry City Council sports development officer Tommy McCallion said: “We are aiming to make physical activity central to children’s entertainment and events. We have enjoyed much success combining physical activity with arts and cultural events and the response from parents is great.”

The Monday events will be conducted in fancy dress with instructors and children arriving in their Halloween costumes.

Admission to Spooky Sports is £2 and includes lunch.

Booking is essential and parents are advised to book early. For further information, please call (028) 7136 1566. To view details of the Halloween programme click on, or contact the office directly on (028) 7137 6545.
